You are ready to be an Independent Comedy Producer

So says Velvet Wells

There are many ways to be part of the improv community. Becoming an Independent Comedy Producer is an excellent role for someone looking to be:

A Community Builder

The producer role, in independent comedy scenes, takes care of people. You get to say yes to the ideas, the people, and the space. You manage expectations and strive for the best from everybody

If you’ve ever said Yes to an improv scene idea, you’re ready to take care of this part of the scene.

A Problem Solving Resource

The producer role, in independent comedy scenes, manages the many moving parts behind the scenes, and finds solutions for any parts that aren’t moving.

A new comedy producer gets to solve for each of the roles and their conflicting need for immediate action. Experienced producers and those with the budget, delegate some of the invisible roles but they are always problem solving.

If you’ve ever said Yes And to an improv scene idea, you’re ready to find the needs and gaps in the community and build them up.

Curious?

The work you do as an Independent Comedy Producer can prepare you for a career in other parts of the arts industry. You aren’t working behind the scene — you are the scene.

(In between production work, you can always pitch marketing materials for the job you want)
