Velvet (he/they) is an award winning theatre professional living in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Director of Operations, Black Improv Alliance

Starting in March 2021, Velvet originated the role of Director of Operations within the Black Improv Alliance, providing strategic leadership in event and process management

Outreach and Inclusion Manager, The Nursery Theatre

From April to September, 2021, Velvet was the Manager of Outreach and Inclusion within The Nursery. He lead the strategy for ongoing outreach and inclusion practices within The Nursery Theatre and its community

Community Leader

For his community building work during the pandemic, Velvet was recognized as a Quiet Hero and Community Builder by his international peers during the 2020 Everybody Get In Here Improv Festival. Velvet created musical jams, BIPOC and Game-based duo shows, engaged in the community groups and supported others with their shows


Virtual Improv Workshops

Velvet is a sought-out facilitator, having lead workshops for international improvisational theatres (i.e., Black Improv Alliance, Highwire Improv, Oakville Improv Theatre Company, Montreal Improv), festivals (i.e., Everybody Get In Here Festival, Edinburgh International Improv Festival, Vintage Improv Festival), and community organizations (i.e., Bright Futures, Art Gallery of Mississauga, Guelph Black Heritage Society, Guelph Pride)

In Person Workshops

Velvet has facilitated at the Black and Funny Festival (HUGE Theater, Minneapolis), Theatre on the Edge (Waterloo) and with the original Toronto TheatreSports

In addition to adult education training, Velvet is a graduate from the International Improv Station (Masterclass in Teaching) and Second City Toronto Training Centre (Musical Improvisation Conservatory). Velvet continues life long learning through master classes with Jill Bernard, Stephen Davidson, John Gebretatose, Natasha Boomer, Ken Hall, Mick Napier, Katy Schutte and Chris Mead, and many more
